I hate you, Lupron.

It must be something about Lupron that makes me blog...

I have had a headache since Saturday.  Today is Thursday.  Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday were complete hell.  The headache gradually got worse, peaking overnight Monday and all day Tuesday. Monday night and Tuesday I was extremely nauseous from the pain. Nothing worked.  I'm not supposed to take Advil, but I called the dr. Tuesday morning and was given the okay for this week only.  By Wednesday I was alternating advil and tylenol about every 4 hours, which at least kept it at a manageable pain level.  When I called the dr. the nurse says, "are you headache prone?"  Ha!  Then, "well, Lupron is known to cause headaches."  (Yes, I knew that already).   I often have headaches, but I can usually manage them and they go away with a little tylenol.  But this has been just insane.  It's quite difficult to stay sane and be productive when you've had a headache this long.  This week was supposed to be "get all my school sh*@ done so I can relax while stimming" week. So much for that plan.

Lesson Learned

Even when you are having a good IF day and feeling positive and hopeful, do not, I repeat DO NOT watch the baby shows on TLC.  What began as a "maybe I'll watch Make Room for Multiples" turned into several episodes, while I became more and more reminded of how much we desperately want a family.  I want my life to revolve around a child (or two or three, I'd be thrilled with multiples), I want to do nothing but change diapers, remember feedings, barely sleep or keep up with the laundry or dishes.  Which is slightly crazy, I realize.  But IF is so unfair.  The wait just drags on and on.

As for our IVF cycle, last night was the last BCP (yay!).  Now we wait for good ole' AF to show up, and I have an ultrasound scheduled for the 28th.  Stims are planned for May 2, which I hope will come quickly (and bring with it some days above 55 degree, please).  Lupron has not been too bad.  I do have a dull, just slightly annoying headache for most of the day, and I've felt a little dizzy, but other wise so far so good.

Day 4 on Lupron

The last seven days have been interesting, to say the least.  Last week this time, I was sure the whole IVF plan was going to be canceled.  Insurance had denied the medications, and I was told to just wait while the dr. faxed a letter explaining the medical necessity of IVF at this point.  Not only did it take a letter, but then a conference call.  Thankfully, the insurance pre-certification company approved us!  That's a lot of emotions to have in 48 hours, though.

Today is day 4 of the Lupron shots.  The first one was painful, but only because I didn't let the alcohol dry before jabbing myself with the needle.  I guess I was just too excited, lol.  Last night's shot was completely painless (yay!), with just a little bit of itching at the injection site.  Tonight is the last night of BCPs! This first week is already going quickly!  I'm feeling excited and hopeful!

Changing the focus

Since my first attempt at a blog didn't work out, I've changed the focus.  Unfortunately, my neighbor passed away late last summer at 87, leaving not much to blog about.

From this point forward, this blog will chronicle our struggles to start a family and serve as an outlet for my roller coaster of emotions.

Dogs will be dogs

This is from a couple of weeks ago:

After a couple uneventful weeks with the old guy next door, I was beginning to think I wouldn't have anything to write about.  Thankfully, he delivered.

Kal has taken to reclining on the back of the couch that sits in front of the large picture window at the front of the house.  He loves this spot.  He especially loves it because he has a nice view of the front sidewalk and can bark at any possible intruders.  Great guard dog, except that if anyone actually made it inside he'd jump all over them, begging for affection.

From the hours of about 3-6 p.m., our neighborhood seems to be quite busy.  Kal barks every 10 min or so, and nothing will shut him up.  He doesn't respond to yelling, loud clapping, nothing.  Yesterday I was getting ready to go out to dinner, and I was beginning to lose my mind from the barking.  There's not much I can do to stop him from the shower.

So, he's going crazy, and I finally run down the stairs, grab him by the collar, see my neighbor standing in front of our house, and make Kal go out back for a few minutes.  Within seconds, the doorbell rings.  Guess who?

This time, he tells me not to hit the dog (which I didn't).  That he's a dog, and that's what dogs do.  He also wanted to tell me another dog walking by had started to come up our steps, which was why Kal was barking (this time).

Here I am mortified that we've become the house with the loud, obnoxious dogs that never stop barking, and I'm getting scolded for trying to make him stop.

Neighborhood Watch

The purpose of this blog is to chronicle the daily interactions with my neighbor, the 80-something old man next door. In the words of the seller, he "walks around the block about every 4 minutes."  He knows just about everything about everyone and either sits in the front of his house or walks to and from the corner.  He also wears only slippers.  To drive.

In the 12 days that we have lived here, I have learned all about:
- the same-sex couple across the street and their two adopted children
- that nothing bad has happened to or in our house in the last 42 years that he's been watching it.
- that the owner two before us threw great parties and had a wonderful dog that he (our neighbor) let out during the day (he also offered to let our dogs out while we are at work if needed).
- that his grandchildren eat everything in his house when they come over, especially his 12 year old granddaughter (hobbies: baking; weight: 180 lbs).
- that both sets of urns in front of our house were used in movie sets; we should watch for them.
- that the only chemical that can kill the weed in the front yard is restricted (I'm to let him know if I can get a hold of any).

Wednesday night we were sitting on the deck eating dinner when the doorbell rang.  Was it another new neighbor delivering baked goods to welcome us to the neighborhood?  Nope.  Was it the delivery man? Did we forget to sign the receipt?  Nope.  It was the old guy next door.  He came to tell us that he saw the guy who let his dog crap on our front lawn.  And that he'd had words with him on our behalf.

It was at this point I realized this neighborly relationship is going to be more than just "hello" and listening to a daily slightly-too-long and repetitive story about something.  Given that I will be home all summer, I expect things to get interesting.  And so I've decided to share these delightful encounters with the world.  Hopefully you'll get a good chuckle once in a while.
